Do you include your hobbies on your CV?

Hobbies are things that you pursue in your spare time. They are things which show aspects of your personality, leadership and skills. However many people list hobbies on their CV. On a CV, hobbies are out of place. A CV is a professional and technical document and in effect it should stay this way.

Hobbies are important but they are something that an employer can ask about at the appropriate time. The focus needs to be on you, your technical expertise and experience and how you can add value to the next company. The advice is to leave hobbies out of your CV layout.

Focus instead on selling the attributes that you have gained from doing the hobbies and sell these to the employer within your CV structure. Be confident enough to sell yourself and not your hobbies and personal interests on your CV.
